Tony’s call: The October 17 Mentone Fall Festival is the one event here worth building an entire getaway around. The smaller DeSoto programs are better treated as a strong addition to a park day, not the reason for the whole trip.

Mentone Fall Festival
9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Central · Moon Lake Campus, Mentone
More than 80 artists and vendors, live music, food and children’s activities on the historic Moon Lake campus. This is Mentone showing its full personality, and it will also be one of the busiest days of the fall.
Plan it well: arrive early, expect a $5 parking donation, and do not try to squeeze DeSoto, the canyon and the festival into the same day. Give the festival its morning and choose one scenic stop afterward.
These programs fit naturally into a DeSoto State Park day. Workshop space and materials can be limited; follow the official link before assuming a place is available.

I have left out expired listings, events with unclear 2026 dates, and generic Fort Payne or county listings that do not materially improve a Mentone trip. The broader DeKalb calendar is still useful if you are willing to drive, but this page stays focused on the mountain.
